Regulatory control of ionizing radiation in Canada

In Canada, the procurement, use, disposal and other activities involving radioactive materials are governed by the Atomic Energy Control Act. In 1970, the Radiation-Emitting Devices Act brought most other potentially harmful radiation sources under surveillence and control. The development and growth of the monitoring and control programs of the Radiation Protection Division of the Department of National Health and Welfare are described for the period 1950 through 1970.
