Lipatov's QCD Pomeron and Sp-barpS data on the phase of p-barp elastic scattering

Description
An analysis of cosmic ray data has led to the conclusion tha the total cross section of the proton-proton interactions rises steeply beyond the energy of 1 TeV, which agrees well with predictions of Lipatov's QCD Pomeron. A large, positive phase of the forward proton (antiproton)-proton scattering amplitude implied by this rapid rise of the total cross sections is shown to fit perfectly the recent Sp-barpS data on the ratio of the real to the imaginary part of the forward elastic scattering amplitude. Predictions of the total cross section at 1.8 TeV are presented. (Z.J.). 4 figs., 1 tab., 18 refs
