Ion-induced electron emission from thin carbon foils

Description

Ion-induced electron emission (EE) yields from thin carbon foils (∼ 5-20 μg/cm2) have been investigated for many years. The findings are of relevance to the fundamental mechanisms of ion stopping in solids. In the present study, EE yields, defined as the number of emitted electrons per incident ion, are reported for light ions on self supporting carbon foils of ∼ 15 μg/cm2. The results are preliminary to a further investigation of the Z1 charge-state dependence of the EE yields. Initial results will be presented which show good agreement with previously published values
