Comparison of DEM Generated by Geodesic Method and Photogrammetry

Description
A variety of different methods are used to generate the Digital Elevation Model. These models can be generated from topographic maps obtained with ground measurements, photogrammetric flight data or remote sensory technology. This paper will make a comparison of which method is better. Two types of DEM have been used. The first DEM was produced by the Department of Survey and Mapping Malaysia (JUPEM), while the second DEM was produced from photogrammetry via unmanned aircraft. In this study, all DEMs were compared individually based on selected references. The results found that the DEM produced by the photogrametic method has better accuracy for open, flat and forest areas than the DEM produced from topographic maps. (author)
