Description

Inertial Fusion Energy (IFE) has become feasible with the better understanding of implosion physics and with the progress of driver technologies for the advanced implosion experiment and for the commercial reactors. The IFE activities in Japan and the research program at Institute of laser Engineering (ILE), Osaka University are reviewed. ILE has started an intensive Research and Development project addressing a number of physics and technical issues related to ignition and burn. Along with the project at ILE, IFE Network in Japan are being formed to enhance the collaborative research work. International collaborations are also proceeded to reinforce the IFE activities throughout the world. (Author). 8 refs., 4 figs
