Drainage liquid wastes, waste oils, waste management (Nuclear power plants)
Description
In nuclear power plants, some small amounts of radioactive material may be released into, or produced in, the water, which is mostly cleaned by using filters and resins to be reused as treated water. Some of the water is released into the environment. Boric acid is recovered by demineralizers and evaporators in the PWR. Water quality and waste management criteria of BWR and PWR liquid waste disposals were reviewed respectively based on latest plants experiences with innovated and economical technology to reduce the amount of waste production and also environmental loads. Enriched liquid wastes were solidified and stored as solid wastes in the steel drums. (T. Tanaka)
