Interpretation of gravity anomalies along the seismic profile CEL12: based on density modelling

Description

The main aim of this study is to compile 2-D density model of the CELEBRATION 2000 profile CEL12, using seismic refraction data, topography and complete Bouguer anomaly values. The densities of the anomalous crustal bodies were determined by transformation of seismic velocities to densities. Seismic profile found out the deepest Moho boundary (about 45 km) in the Western Carpathians. The input density model of the CEL12 profile was based on the seismic refraction profile. The resultant final 2-D density model confirmed clearly that in the Outer Western Carpathians the thickest crust exists. It is located ∼50 km north-eastern from the High Tatras in Poland. Generally, the agreement between the seismic and gravimetric results is well. The results obtained contribute to the extension of our knowledge related to the lithospheric structure in the Western Carpathians. (authors)
