Long life reactors - design requirements

Creators

  • 1. ASEA-ATOM AB, Vaesteraas (Sweden)

Description

Aspects which affect the service lifetime of a nuclear reactor are considered - the design, how the plant is operated and maintained and public acceptance. In particular, the design with internal pumps makes inspection and replacement of components easier, but other design and operating features are mentioned. Examples are given based on the boiling water reactor system developed in Sweden. The public perception of nuclear power is influenced by core melts due to inferior design and incompetence. The industry must change the public attitudes. (UK)
