ELECNUC. Nuclear power plants in the world - 2015 edition. Status on 12-31-2014, Draft using the IAEA's PRIS database and specific I-tese studies

Description

The situation in Japan has not evolved significantly since 2012: all its nuclear power plants are idle and safety improvements are being carried out. Several plants, however, are going through the regulatory process required to restart - the first to be implemented are expected in 2015. Few projects have been reported to be in the building phase (programs in the United Arab Emirates and in Belarus proceed), but the CAREM25 project is significant as it is the first SMR (Small Modular Reactor) to be built in the world. There is still a considerable number of ongoing building programs - i.e. more than 60 units. The commercial start of 7 reactors in China and 1 reactor in India - all of which are PWR -, offsets the decrease in installed capacity which began in 2011. This capacity increase (up 6.3 GWe) leads to an increase in nuclear electricity production (up 60 TWh). Considering the ongoing programs this trend should persist, as more than 5 commercial starts are expected each year for the next 3 years. Content: 1 - 2014 highlights; 2 - Main characteristics of reactor types; 3 - Map of the French nuclear power plants on 01/01/2014; 4 - Worldwide status of nuclear power plants (12/31/2014); 5 - Units distributed by countries; 6 - Nuclear power plants connected to the Grid- by reactor type groups (12/31/2014); 7 - Nuclear power plants under construction on 2014; 8 - Evolution of nuclear power plants capacities connected to the grid; 9 - First electric generations supplied by a nuclear unit in each country; 10 - Electricity generation from nuclear power plants by country at the end of 2014; 11 - Evolution of the generation indicators worldwide by type; 12 - Performance indicator of french PWR units; 13 - Main nuclear operator ranking according to their installed capacity; 14 - Units connected to the grid by countries at 12/31/2014; 15 - Nuclear power plants under construction at 12/31/2014; 16 - Shutdown reactors; 17 - Exported nuclear capacity in net MWe; 18 - Exported and national nuclear capacity connected to the grid; 19 - Exported nuclear power plants under construction; 20 - Exported and national nuclear capacity under construction; 21 - Nuclear power plants planned at 12/31/2014; 22 - Long term shutdown units at 12/31/2014; 23 - Appendix - Historical development; 24 - Meaning of the used acronyms; 25 - Glossary
