Description
Gas filled detectors had been used for nearly 90 years for detection and research of ionizing radiation. This papers presents the development of the proportional counter for spectroscopy purposes, for effective measurement of activity (multiwire proportional counter) in the field of radiation protection as well as for application in high energy physics and in biology and medicine. Gasgefuellte Detektoren werden seit fast 90 Jahren zum Nachweis und zur Untersuchung der Eigenschaften ionisierender Strahlung eingesetzt. Die Entwicklung des Proportionaldetektors zur Spektrometrie ionisierender Strahlen, zur effektiven Aktivitaetsmessung als Grossflaechenzaehler im Strahlenschutz, als ortsaufloesende Vieldrahtkammer in der Elementarteilchenphysik und ihre Anwendung in der Biologie, der Medizin und anderen Disziplinen wird dargestellt.
