Status of Nuclear Process Heat Development Work in the Dragon Project
Description
The paper commences with a brief resume of the role played by the Dragon Project in the development of the High Temperature Reactor for Electricity generation. This leads on to a survey of the needs and timescale foreseen in the Dragon countries for development of Very High Temperature Reactors to supply high grade process heat for replacement of fossil fuels. International co-operation, using the experience and facilities of the Dragon Project, is seen as a powerful means for pursuing this development work. Some proposals for further investigation in both the design and materials fields are briefly outlined and the need for an early start to substantial programmes of work is emphasised. (author)
