Paramagnetic centers trapped in solid hydrogen cyanide upon gamma-irradiation

Description

Accumulation of paramagnetic centers (PMC) takes place by low-temperature (77 K) radiolysis of hydrogen cyanide with high radiation yield (G = 8 particle/100 eV). The C ≡ N(1) radicals, formed by the H-atom break off from a neutral molecule, and the H2C ≡ N(2) radicals formed by attachment of atomarous hydrogen to the HCN molecule are identified by the EPR spectra. The H2C ≡ N radicals constitute the basic radical particle; the break off C≡N radicals are accumulated in small quantities. Accumulation (= 25% from the total quantity) of paramagnetic centers with duplicate EPR spectrum (ΔH = 8.2 mT lines splitting; intensities ratio 1:1) is identified apart from the above two known particles. These particles are unambiguously not determined
