Eight-channel gas Cerenkov counter
- 1. Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, Dubna, USSR
Description
A wide-aperture eight-channel gas threshold Cerenkov counter that is a part of the GIPERON spectrometric system of the proton synchrotron of the Institute of High Energy Physics is described. The counter dimensions are 240 x 240 x 95 cm. Eight mirrors with a total area of 240 x 76 cm with a reflective layer of aluminized Mylar on a base of polyurethane foam focus Cerenkov radiation on XP2041/Q photomultipliers. The results of tests of the counter are presented. The velocity resolution σβ/β ∼ 3 x 10-5 for β > 0.9999
