Broadening of spectral lines of single ionized noble gases by plasmas

  • 1. Universidad Nacional del Centro de la Provincia de Buenos Aires, Tandil (Argentina). Facultad de Ciencias Exactas

Description

The Stark widths of ns-np transitions of the homologous sequence Ne II, Ar II, Kr II and Xe II follow a general trend in function of two relevant atomic parameters: the atomic number, Z and the upper level ionization potential, I; this role of I and Z is confirmed by line shifts experiments. For Ne ≥ 1017 cm-3, a non linear dependence between Stark parameters and electron density exists: w ∼ Neδ; from the general trend, the value δ = 5/6 is established. (Author)
