Basic research on a rapid evaluation of adsorbents used for radioactive wastewater treatment

Description

Various adsorbents are used at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station to treat radioactive wastewater. The authors considered vertical agitation batch testing as a rapid and easy method of evaluating adsorption performance and the risk of column blockage caused by microparticles from degraded adsorbents. This method enabled a relative evaluation of adsorption performance to be conducted in 1/60th of the time required by the conventional method. It was also confirmed that the degree of degrading of the adsorbents can be evaluated by measuring the transmittance of supernatant liquid after vertical agitation. (author)

Abstract (Japanese)

福島第一原子力発電所の汚染水処理に用いる各種吸着材の吸着性能および脆化によるカラム閉塞リスクを,迅速かつ簡易に評価する方法として,垂直撹拌バッチ試験を検討した。その結果,従来法の60分の1の時間で,吸着性能の相対評価が可能となり,また,垂直撹拌後の上澄み液の透過率を測定することで,吸着材の脆化度合いの評価が可能であることが確認できた。(著者)
