Modifications and developments done for the problems encountered in NSC pelletron

Description

The control signals to control the function of devices, inside high voltage tank of NSC 15 UD accelerator, are carried by means of the fibre optic cable. In one of the operations, the control on some of these devices was lost. The reason for this was the total damage of fibre optic cable. An indigenous fibre optic connector was developed and a patch was connected in place of damaged cable by using these indigenously developed connectors. Apart from this a new system, for absolute position read back of foil stripper, is designed, fabricated and installed in the accelerator at NSC. Foil stripper at terminal is used to convert negative ion to positive ion and its stripping efficiency depends upon its health. There are 200 stripper foils in NSC 15 UD pelletron accelerator and it is important to know the condition of each stripper for the operation of accelerator. This position read back system helps to know the status of stripper, in use, accurately. Use of two turbo pumps modifies gas stripper system used in NSC 15 UD accelerator. During test run it was observed that the operation of turbo pump controller, used for the operation, was not up to the mark. It broke down twice during the test run.
