Use of foams for decontamination of building parts of a nuclear power plant

  • 1. Vojenska Lekarska Akademie J.E. Purkyne, Hradec Kralove (Czechoslovakia)

Description

7 types of foam used for surface decontamination were tested on some buildings of the A-1 nuclear power plant in Jaslovske Bohunice. The compositions are listed of the agents and the procedures of their preparation and application are described. Briefly discussed are some results of the experiments. The experiments were found to show the suitability of the foams in decontamination of building parts of the decommissioned plant. The efficacy of decontamination depended on the composition of foaming agents, the time of action and the method of final treatment of the decontaminated surface. It also significantly depended on the character of the contaminat-surface binding. Surfaces contaminated with radionuclide aerosols could completely be cleaned. (Z.M.). 3 tabs., 6 refs
