Alpha detection by zinc sulfide

Description
A study of the basic properties of scintillation pulses produced by alpha particles in ZnS(Ag) was conducted. The purposes of the study were (1) to obtain information for design of a low-efficiency alpha counter to quantify the very high activities associated with filter samples from radon progeny inhalation studies, (2) to Improve Lucas cells used for radon concentration determinations, and (3) to provide basic data so that a calculational method for calibration of Lucas cells could be developed.
