Description
Neodyme doped glass laser is one of the most used in the world to study the interaction laser-matter in dense and hot plasmas and to carry out experiments to realize the controlled thermonuclear fusion. The principle of this laser is presented and its working is studied. Non linear effects and self focalisation phenomena are observed. The general settling of chains of high energy lasers is described and the part of the different composantes is analysed: oscillators, devices to form the pulse shape, device to control the spatial quality of the beam, antireturn devices. A table presenting the mean characteristics of neodyme lasers operating either in the USA (Lawrence Livermore Laboratory) or in Great Britain (Rutherford Lab.) or in Soviet Union (Lebedev Institut) or in Japan or in France (Research Center of Limeil) is presented on the conclusion
Abstract (French)
Le laser a verre dope au neodyme est l'un des lasers les plus utilises dans le monde pour l'etude des phenomenes d'interaction laser-matiere dans les plasmas denses et chauds et la conduite des experiences menees en vue de realiser la fusion thermonucleaire controlee. Le principe de ce laser est expose, et son fonctionnement etudie avec la mise en evidence des effets non lineaires et des phenomenes d'auto focalisation. La constitution des chaines des lasers a haute energie est decrite en general, et le role de leurs differentes composantes est analyse: oscillateurs, dispositifs de mise en forme de l'impulsion, dispositif de controle de la qualite spatiale du faisceau, dispositifs anti-retour, etc. Un tableau est donne dans la conclusion des caracteristiques principales des lasers a neodyme des USA (Lawrence Livermore Laboratory), de Grande Bretagne (Rutherford Lab.), de l'URSS (Institut Lebedev), du Japon et du Centre de Recherches de Limeil (France)Additional details
