Tasks for the radiochemist in industry

By means of various examples of applied radiochemistry in the industrial sector, an attempt is made to draw a more generally valid picture of the tasks of the radiochemist in industry. For this, it is necessary to firstly define the terms 'radiochemistry' and 'radiochemist'. Under this occupation one generally understands the chemical or chemical-technical handling of radiating substances. There is a distinct difference between the latter and the often used term 'nuclear chemistry' of different nomenclature, which only involves the application of chemical methods to problems of research in the atomic nucleus. As industrial application of such a specially defined nuclear chemistry, the making use of the discovery of nuclear fission to produce energy may be mentioned as a lone paragon. (orig./LH)
