Description
Several hard C-ray sources appear to show both power law spectra and exhibit fast, aperiodic time variations. One example of this class, Ser X-1, is studied in detail. It has a mean spectral shape dN/dE=2.9.10sup(-2.3)ph cm-2 keV-1 s-1, shows no periodic variations above the 5% level at low energies in the 64s-2400s period range but exhibits nonperiodic fluctuations roughly following a (frequency)-1 power law and also emits bursts. The general ideas of hydrodynamic turbulence are used within the context of an inverse Compton model to explain the observa-tions. (author)
