regulating the plasma performance in plasma accelerating column

Description

The aim of the present work is to build and to study the performance of a technique suitable for particle acceleration. For this purpose a plasma medium has been created to accomplish this task. The characteristics, the diagnostics of this medium and the effect of electron injection have been studied.The thesis is composed of five chapters in addition to this summary and conclusion.The first and the second chapters represent a theoretical review of the types of accelerators, the gas discharges and the types of ion sources.The third chapter deals with the basis of plasma acceleration and the advantages of using plasma as a medium of acceleration rather than the present conventional accelerators.The forth chapter comprises the experimental setup for the creation of the plasma inside a Pyrex column of 20 cm long and 4 cm diameter, in addition, a description of the measuring techniques is performed.The last chapter presents the experimental results and discussions of the plasma medium characteristics and the influence of electron injection on the plasma column.In this work, plasma medium is created with an audio power in the audio range (10-100 khz) at pressure (0.1-0.2 Torr.).The plasma is created by using different gases (hydrogen, helium, nitrogen and argon) in order to study the different behaviors that characterize the plasma medium.
