Ion cyclotron instability of ion beams induced by self-organized periodic structure
- 1. Shizuoka Univ. (Japan). Dept. of Physics
Description
Electrostatic ion cyclotron waves are excited when an ion beam injected along a magnetic field forms a self-organized spatial periodic plasma structure due to the magnetic focusing effect. The phenomenon corresponds to a special case of the explosive instability, which is induced by this periodic structure and simultaneously excites two waves (beam cyclotron mode and cyclotron mode).
