Interference of uranium on neodymium emission lines for evaluation of their analytical utility on ICP-AES system

  • 1. Waste Management Facilities, Waste Management Div., Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Tarapur (India)

Description

High-level waste (HLW) is generated during reprocessing of spent fuel and contains various components such as corrosion products, fission products, added chemicals and un-extracted actinides. Uranium in the HLW is in appreciable content. Analysis of HLW for various constituents is primary requirement for development of glass composition. Analysis of HLW is carried out using ICP-AES system. Since U is having many emission lines, there is interference of U on many rare earth elements. Interference of U on determination of Nd in the waste was studied. (author)
