Description

UKAEA at Dounreay, United Kingdom, have fabricated two LEU Silicide Elements with a uranium density of 4.8g cm3, for qualification of UKAEA produced silicide fuel. These elements have successfully passed all pre-irradiation checks and are now approaching their 300 full power days target for irradiation in the High Flux Reactor (HFR) at Petten, The Netherlands. In-pile performance to date has been as expected and completion of irradiation is scheduled for 13 October 1997. On completion of the irradiation the elements will be stored for approximately 100 days for fission products decay before undergoing Post Irradiation Examination. (author)
