Description

The paper reviews the mechanism of interaction between intense microwave fields and plasma, aiming at plasma confinement and heating. It presents the problems related to the experimental conditions in which these types of interaction are produced by means of adequate microwave structures. One of these structures, the helicoidal slit (Lisitano) is analysed in detail, with particular stress on its applicability to magnetic mirror machines. (author)
