Validation of the shields in the medical facilities through measurements of the HP environmental dose (10)

In radiation therapy, high absorbed doses are given which can lead to exceeding the established levels of environmental radiation; On the other hand, in the practice of radiodiagnosis and interventionist a bad calculation of the shielding can cause the potential exposure of a greater number of people, workers and the public. Therefore, the objective of the work was to establish a methodology based on the criteria given in reports N ° 151 and N ° 147 of the NCRP to validate the calculations of the shielding of radiotherapy and radiodiagnosis facilities. The radiotherapy, radiodiagnosis and interventionist facilities considered in this work belong to the National Institute of Neoplastic Diseases; the measurement of the environmental dose Hp (10) (in μSv / h) was carried out with two radiation monitors (Brand: Sensortechnik und Elektronik Pockau GmbH, Model: SURVEY METER OD-01) calibrated for the qualities of radiotherapy radiation beams and diagnostic X-ray beams; the validation methodology is based on the recommendations of reports N ° 151 and N ° 147 of the NCRP which depend on the measured values of the environmental dose and the levels of use and occupation from each of the rooms adjacent to the evaluated armor; the results are contrasted with the limit values established in the current national regulations. At the end of the work we concluded that the proposed methodology allows to validate and audit the shielding of the radiotherapy, radiodiagnosis and interventionist facilities and thereby ensure that occupational and public dose levels are not exceeded.
