Fluorescence of Er3+ doped La2S3.3Ga2S3 glasses

Description

In this paper the authors report the preparation and fluorescence of Er3+ in chalcogenide glasses. In the oxide glasses it has been shown that the multiphonon transition rates of the RE are independent of the coupling between a given oxide glass and rare earth ion, but dependent exponentially on the number of phonons of highest energy bridging the emitting and next-lower level. It is of interest to establish whether changing the glass matrix will affect the amount of electron phonon coupling. In addition, because of their low phonon energy and high refractive index, the RE doped chalcogenide glasses will form a new type of fluorescent material. This may be of interest in new RE lasers.
