Differential diagnosis of scintigraphic brain centres by 75Se selenite

Since standard brain scintigraphy with sup(99m)Tc is not always adequate for a satisfactory differential diagnosis of the radioactive foci detected, the possibilities of 75Se sodium selenite were investigated. It was observed that in centres due to a vascular lesion the selenite concentration is always low, rising steeply in neoplasmic foci. The 75Se-selenite scintigraphic method is considered highly valid, complementing that of sup(99m)Tc when this latter is unsuitable for diagnosis of the nature of cerebral foci
Abstract (French)
La scintigraphie cerebrale standard au sup(99m)Tc n'etant pas toujours suffisante pour un diagnostic differentiel satisfaisant des foyers radioactifs deceles, on a etudie les possibilites du Se75 selenite de sodium. On a constate que dans les foyers dus a une lesion vasculaire, la concentration du selenite demeure presque toujours faible. C'est dans les foyers neoplasiques que la concentration du traceur s'eleve beaucoup. La scintigraphie au selenite-Se75 est consideree comme une methode tres valable, complementaire de celle au sup(99m)Tc, dans les cas ou celui-ci ne suffit pas pour un diagnostic de la nature des foyers cerebrauxAdditional details
