Actively cooled graphite limiter

  • 1. Association Euratom-Max-Planck-Institut fuer Plasmaphysik, Garching (Germany, F.R.)

Description

A concept for direct cooling of bulk graphite tiles for application as first wall or limiter in fusion reactors is presented. With a graphite radiator as heat source, a steady-state cooling power of 380 W/cm2 was measured. Extrapolation affords hopes of achieving 550 W/cm2 or more. The cooling concept is based on brazing thin-walled molybdenum tubes to the rear side of the graphite. Another brazing provides the transition from molybdenum to stainless steel. (author)
