System of unified modules for the SUMMA multichannel analysis

Description

This article deals with the modules of the time-to-digital multi-channel conversion in system SUMMA designed for taking information from spark wire chambers with magnetostrictive delay lines. The hardware comprising these modules features 320 channels and is used with spectrometer SIGMA of 70-GeV accelerator IHER. Time-to-digital conversion is effected at a clock frequency of 10 MHz. Information about the co-ordinates of sparks is stored in the 13-digit registers employing integral matrixes. Measurements are made to evaluate the effect of the clock oscillator frequency and stability on geometric accuracy in determining the position of the sparks in the chamber
