Productivity and quality benefits from improved pipework installation techniques with reference to the vitrification plant
Description
The application of what has been called ''new technology'' to the fabrication and erection of stainless steel process pipework has led to both quality and productivity benefits in the construction of the Windscale Vitrification Plant. The ''new technology'' consists of combining CAD with laser systems of measurement, CNC pipe bending, vacuum purging and orbital welding techniques. The way in which the various technologies have been applied and the results obtained are described. (author)
