First-principles study of interlayer exchange coupling in iron metallic multilayers

  • 1. Department of Physics, Nara Medical University, Kashihara, Nara 634-8521 (Japan)

Description

On the basis of a first-principles electronic structure calculation, interlayer exchange coupling and distribution of local magnetic moments are investigated for Fe/Cu and Fe/V multilayers. The distribution of local magnetic moments in the Cu or V spacer layers illustrates proximity effects due to ferromagnetic Fe layers upon the spacer layers and bulk effects inherent in the spacer layers
