Molecular mechanisms in radiation carcinogenesis

Creators

  • 1. Brookhaven National Lab., Upton, NY

Description

Two approaches to radioinduced carcinogenesis are outlined that give results that differ by a factor of three. However the agreement is considered good in view of the completely different assumptions involved and the crude averages used in data analysis. In the field of radiation carcinogenesis quantitative predictions can be made. It is clear that for quantitative evaluation of hazardous environmental agents we need more than just extensive epidemiologic data. We need useful cellular and animal models as well as good molecular theories
