Radiotherapy of patients with undifferentiated cancer of the lung under hyperbaric oxygenation

  • 1. Nauchno-Issledovatel'skij Onkologicheskij Inst., Moscow (USSR)

Description

The efficiency of tele-gammatherapy under hyperbaric oxygenation was studied in 27 patients with poorly differentiated forms of lung cancer of stages 3-4. The use of the method of large fractions by 600 rad twice a week with cumulative doses of 4200, 4800, 5400 rad made it possible to prolong the average life span of the patients with undifferentiated cancer of the lung up to 20 months against 7.7 months in the use of the regimen of dynamic fractionation in a split course (6050-6500 rad). A comparative analysis of the efficiency of the tele-gammatherapy under hyperbaric oxygenation evidences the advantage of the method in comparison with radiation and chemoradiation both by the criterion of the treatment tolerance, local and general radiation reactions, and by the life span criterion
