GEIS
Description
This paper reports that Boston College has developed a Geo-science Information System (GEIS). The GEIS blends GIS technology with geoscience methods and is an extension of conventional information systems. The objective of the GEIS system and concept is to take full advantage of a well designed information system to merge the data obtained through the observational and interpretive abilities of a seasoned geologist with that which is quantifiable and amenable to digital analysis. In doing so, the GEIS emphasizes the data integration capabilities of the GIS concept, its full potential as a multidimensional relational database management system with its diverse graphical output capabilities, complemented by accepted geoscience data analysis routines
