Description
Experiments on confinement of a hot-electron plasma in antiparallel magnetic fields are carried out. A possibility of generation of a long-lived (1-8 ms lifetime) hot-electron plasma with β ∼ 3% in the 1 T magnetic field region on electron cyclotron heating is shown. These parameters, which can be controlled by changing the external experimental parameters (gas flow, gyrotron power, etc.), provide an armature MHD stability margin, sufficient (according to design calculations) for plasma stabilization with β, equal to several dozens of per cent
