Description

The true coincidence summing effect on the full energy peak efficiency calibration of a clover detector has been determined using mono-energetic and multi-energetic gamma ray sources. The effect has been studied as a function of sample to detector distance for point sources. At distances, d=3.2 cm and 10.2 cm, significant deviation of the efficiencies corresponding to gamma rays of coincident sources (60Co, 152Eu and 133Ba) from the extrapolated efficiencies of mono-energetic sources (109Cd, 57Co, 203Hg, 51Cr, 137Cs, 65Zn) at the respective energies was observed, indicating the effect of coincidence summing. The coincidence summing factors (kTCS) at these energies have been experimentally obtained by taking the ratio of corresponding mono-energetic extrapolated efficiencies to multi-energetic efficiencies. Coincidence correction factors as high as 1.25 has been obtained. (author)
