Advances in constructability

  • 1. Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd., Sheridan Park, Ontario. Power Projects

Description

The AECL developed CANDU 3 with an electrical output in the range of 450 MW, is designed to be competitive with a coal fired plant of similar output in terms of energy, cost and schedule. Ease and speed of construction were, therefore, among the primary focuses of the CANDU 3 design effort. This paper provides a detailed review of the CANDU 3 construction schedule and methods. Among the advances in constructability is total modularization and a layout which provides separation of buildings and services, enhancing seismicity and ease of operation. (orig.)
