Brachytherapy at Peter MacCallum Hospital

Description

This paper presents the history of brachytherapy at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Institute and describes techniques of today. Past techniques mentioned, include the use of needles in interstitial and intracavity work, and moulds for superficial techniques. Current procedures include the use of iridium 191 wire implants to the breast, lip and vagina, and, the use of caesium 137 via remote afterloading Curietron and Selectron machines for intracavity techniques. The practice of using gold 222 on wax moulds is also described. 4 refs., 9 figs
