BWR type power plants with low radioactivity

Description

Purpose: To decrease the operator's exposure by reducing the radiation dose of the pipeways around the reactor. Constitution: Recycling pipeways and cleanup pipeways of a reactor are made of stainless steels having passivated membranes. Stainless steels having such passivated membranes are prepared by immersing stainless steels into an aqueous 12 - 17 volume % nitric acid solution at 40 - 600C for 15 - 20 min. In the case of using the thus passivated stainless steels to the pipeway, since Co-60 concentration at the surface of the stainless steels can significantly be decreased, exposure to the operators upon periodical plant inspection can also be decreased.
