Corrosion of armco iron during cathodic polarization in strongly acidic chloride solutions

Description
The rate of iron dissolution in solutions of hydrochloric acid in water, methanol ethanol, and ethylene glycol in the cathodic region is independent of the electrode potential and increases in the series H2O → C2H4(OH)2 → C2H5OH → CH3OH. The overall corrosion rate in alcoholic media is determined by chemical dissolution. Cathodic polarization cannot be used for protecting carbon steel and iron against corrosion in acidic solutions of alcohols
