Online measurement of neutron yield of D-D (2H-2H) neutron generator using indigenously developed light weight transfer standard

Description

Accelerator based D-D/D-T Neutron Generators (NG's) are being used in many applications like security, materials analysis, BNCT and in the Accelerator Driven System (ADS) etc. (IAEA- TECDOC-913, 1996). All these applications need the exact neutron yield of the reaction. Mainly two methods are used in neutron generators for this purpose viz. Associated Particle Technique (APT) in which neutron yield is estimated by counting the associated charged particle (1H in case of D-D and 4He in case of D-T reaction) by a solid state detector at a specific angle w.r.to the incident 2H beam direction and the other one is the use of Threshold activation foils which is a passive method. A new light weight (∼20 Kg) transfer standard has been indigenously developed using Fluka simulation studies. This system can be used as a new alternative to the above mentioned two techniques
