Combustion synthesis of porous Sm0.5Sr0.5CoO3 using polyvinyl alcohol
- 1. Department of Physics, Shivaji University, Kolhapur (India)
Description
Highly porous Sm0.5Sr0.5CoO3 in bulk form has been developed for cathode based Intermediate Solid Oxide fuel cell application (ITSOFC). A novel approach is adopted to synthesize powder of Sm0.5Sr0.5CoO3 using self propagating combustion synthesis technique with polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) as a versatile fuel. Structural and morphological properties of pellets were studied as a function of calcining temperature by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). XRD studies confirm the formation of pure orthorhombic perovskite phase after heat treatment at 1000 deg C. Morphological analysis reveals the formation of porous network with 3D grain connectivity which is an ideal characteristic of cathode for ITSOFC application. (author)
