Fast safety melt breeder element
Creators
Description
The premanent separation of the central natural uranium, the PuO2 fission zone and the sleeve tube of the fuel element for the sodium-cooled fast breeder is provided by protective layers made of inter-metal compounds which slow down diffusion. Fe2Ta is placed between the sleeve tube and the fission melt and U2Zn17 is placed between the fuel and breeding material. A Bethe-Tait excursion can be prevented by the Zn vapour formed. (RW)
