Organic peroxy free radicals as ultimate agents in oxygen toxicity
Description
The role of organic peroxy free radicals in the interaction of oxygen with important biomolecules in in vitro radiation damage studies is reviewed. These studies include the reaction of RO2. but not R. or 02-. with NADH, antioxidants, unsaturated fatty acids, anti-inflammatory drugs and amino acids; the effects of 02-. and CCl302. on the survival of bacterio-phage T2 in the absence and presence of several anti-inflammatory drugs; the inactivation of lyzozyme by CCl302-.; the inactivation of alcohol dehydrogenase by RO2. generally but not 02.; and the protection of ADH by antioxidants and superoxide dismutase.
