Summary report (2013 - 2017). Cooperation between the International Atomic Energy Agency and Fukushima Prefecture and activities undertaken by Fukushima Prefecture. Radiation monitoring and remediation following the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant accident
Description
Following the accident at TEPCO's Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant in March 2011, mutual cooperations between the Fukushima Prefecture and the IAEA have been made under the Memorandum and Arrangements in regard to radiation monitoring, remediation, decontamination and human health for years. The main role of the IAEA is the provision of effective technical assistance and support based on international experience and best practices. This 5 Year Summary Report summarizes the current status and progress made from 2013 through 2017. Four of the main topics in the cooperation are 1) long term monitoring of radioactive material in forests and associated countermeasures, 2) use of radiation monitoring data to develop maps to be made available to the public, 3) off-site decontamination and environmental monitoring, and 4) management of waste from remediation activities.
