Description
Advanced types of the WWER-440 fuel assemblies (FA) which are under in the Czech Republic are expected to be loaded in 2003. The assembly design with burnable absorbers and higher value of enrichment enables introduction of five-six year cycle. The effective location of Gd-containing pins in the assembly was investigated from the point of view of neutron-physics, thermal-hydraulics and safety margins. Adequate FA designs were proposed, and data for subsequent thermal-hydraulic analyses and data for core design neutronic calculations were prepared. Core analyses proved that Very Low Leakage Loading postulated for 12-month cycle. Licensing process has started with a general revision of the Safety Analysis Report. All accident analyses, neutronic, thermal-hydraulic, fuel behaviour etc. calculations prove the applicability of the new fuel assembly design (Authors)
