Experimantal analysis of tumor local irradiation combined with total body irradiation

Description
Combined radiotherapy in experiments with mouse adenocarcinoma RL-67 according to the scheme of single irradiation of tumor with subsequent total body irradiation in the small fractionation regimen is much more effective than the scheme with reverse sequence and local exposure only. In the growth inhibition phase the scheme as well as other exposures is ineffective. Efficacy (by the test of an increase in mean life span) is determined by a capability of therapeutical measures to inhibit the rate of weight loss in a tumorbearing body which can be compared in untreated animals with the rates of tumor mass growth, body mass growth or loss in healthy growing or healthy hungry animals. The correlations between the indices were interpreted basing on the ability of nonimmune lymphocytes to produce a direct stimulating effect upon the growth of tumorous and normal tissues, the depletion of their fraction during tumor growth, and differences in metabolic independence of metastasizing and nonmetastasizing cells
