Phagocytosis of 131I labelled Salmonella typhymurium in splenic remnants. Experimental study in rats

Forty-one male Wistar rats were divided into three groups, namely: Group I - Normal animals; Group II - Animals submitted to total splenectomy with subsequent intraperitoneal splenic autotransplantion; Group III - Animals submitted to partial 50% splenectomy with subsequent autotransplantation of the removed fragment. After 40 weeks of close observation all animals were administred 70 Micro Ci of an 131I - labelled ''Salmonella Typhymurium'' suspension. Twelve hours later all animals were sacrificed and a complete peritoneal cavity inventory was performed. Samples of both topic spleen and regenerated autotransplant were obtained, processed and autoradiographed. (M.A.C.)
Abstract (Portuguese)
Utilizam-se 41 ratos Wistar machos, distribuidos em tres grupos: 14 animais (controle), 18 (esplenectomia total e reimplante intraperitoneal dos fragmentos do baco retirados) e 9 (esplenectomia parcial de 50%, seguida de reimplante intraperitoneal dos 50% retirados. Relata-se que apos 40 semanas de observacao, os animais sobreviventes foram submetidos a injecao de 70UCi de suspensao de Salmonella Typhymurium marcada com 131I. A seguir, foram sacrificados e passaram por inventario da cavidade peritoneal. Fragmentos de baco topico e autotransplantes esplenicos desenvolvidos, foram retirados e processados para analise radioautografica. (M.A.C.)Additional details
